Two-year-old Preschool
The focus of the two-year-old program is to help the child learn the appropriate social skills that will carry them through the preschool program, as well as, their life. They learn to get along with their peers and teachers through outside play time, circle time, workshop time and teacher supervised free play. They learn basics academics, such as, colors, shapes and simple counting. They learn to use their small and large motor skills through art activities and music and movement. Following directions, learning the school routine, and toilet-training are a large part of the two-year-old program. All of this is accomplished with a 5:1 teacher ratio. The two-year-old classes meet 2 or 3 days a week from 9:30-12:30.
Three-year-old Preschool
The three-year-old program builds on the concepts and skills already learned. They continue to learn to follow directions, articulate needs in an appropriate manner, display self-control and participate in larger group activities. Through games and activities in smaller groups they continue to learn more colors and shapes and basic math and science concepts. Their small motors skills are expanded upon by the use of scissors and tracing. We maintain an average of 5:1 teacher ratio in the three’s, which is well below the state standard. The three’s offer either a 2, 3 or 4 days a week program which meets 9:30-12:30.
Four-year-old Preschool
School Readiness is the main objective of the four-year-old class. This involves both social and academic development. The children learn to be responsible for their own belongings, follow directions and listen to the teacher in a larger group setting and exhibit good self control. Academically, they begin early reading skills, such as, phonemic awareness, recalling details of a story, and sequencing events. Beginning math skills include, recognizing numerals 1-10, matching numerals and quantities, making patterns and putting objects in small to large order. The children learn all of these readiness skills though games and activities in their circle rooms, through movement activities, and arts and crafts. We also have a very small teacher/child ratio of 8:1 in the four-year-old class. We have two programs for this age group. The first meets from 9:30-12:30 4 or 5 days a week. The second program meets from 9:30-2:00 4 or 5 days a week. These children eat lunch and have extended preschool activities during the last hour and a half of this preschool day.
Child Care Program
The main focus of the child care program is to provide a caring and loving environment where the children can enhance their social skills through free expression, play and other activities. Listening to their teachers, following directions and maintaining self-control are the primary focus of this program. Every child enrolled in the child care program is automatically enrolled in the age-appropriate preschool program. The child care program includes nap time for younger children and rest time for older children, as well as, lunch that is provided by the family. We maintain a 6:1 teacher ratio and provide services from 6:30-9:30 when preschool begins and then after preschool is over at 12:30 or 2:00 until 6:00. Child care programs are offered throughout the year.
